Reclamation

Over the years, many fantastic Bible scholars have done incredibly important work pertaining to the “clobber” passages— the handful of verses that religious conservatives take out of context to demonize LGBTQ+ people. In their work, those scholars have unpacked the misinterpretations and mistranslations (some intentional, some unintentional) that have plagued those verses and LGBTQ+ lives for so long. That work has been instrumental to bringing healing into the lives of LGBTQ+ folks, but a question remains.

What comes next?

In her debut book Reclamation, Rev. Kali Cawthon-Freels invites us to examine those passages with fresh eyes, discovering new, soul-nourishing lessons from these misused pieces of scripture.

What People are Saying

“… Cawthon-Freels provides an equally effective healing balm to those who desperately need it, filled with sensitivity, clarity, and wisdom - that holds no punches. She offers lessons full of love instead of hate and instruction instead of condemnation, moving us beyond deconstruction. Enjoy.”

- Amanda Pilbrow, Spiritual Director and Founder of Already Enough

“This book is in every sense a life raft for the Queer Christian seeking some meaningful connection to scripture that is life-giving, liberating and affirming.”

– Rev. Gator Blanchard, Associate Pastor at Unity Fellowship Owens, KY

“[Reclamation] is a guide that dares us to think creatively and generatively about scripture that has done so much damage to so many people, and what these off-limits texts may have to offer us after all.”

– Rev. Natalie Webb, Senior Pastor at University Baptist Church Austin, TX and Co-Founder of Nevertheless, She Preached
